Otherwise they could have gone with completely other methods to achieve that goal.
The choice of typeface for them is a nod to the time the book was written in many cases. Frankenstein for example uses Caslon which was relatively new and popular at the time Shelley wrote it. In the Collected Stories by Poe, they use Ehrhardt which – while still very legible – also comes across as a bit eerie and thus is a good choice for telling his stories.
They even go so far as to make it a point tell you about the typeface they used at the end of each volume. The text in triangle shape if you ever bother to read it…
Personally I think they handle typography very well.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05792156827503809864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7017303008680686537.post-6460860887571270682016-11-20T12:53:44.841-05:002016-11-20T12:53:44.841-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05792156827503809864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7017303008680686537.post-79376621247176733472014-07-02T06:40:09.288-04:002014-07-02T06:40:09.288-04:00A hardback publisher *should* be faulted for using...A hardback publisher *should* be faulted for using a font size that is significantly smaller than the paperback equivalent (compare Dostoevsky's Brother's Karamazov, for instance,...) Everyman should use the same font size throughout, and it should be largest they use at the moment!Mal Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14757740577435906455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7017303008680686537.post-6588418655260403122010-07-12T22:30:15.690-04:002010-07-12T22:30:15.690-04:00I like what I've seen of this line a lot.
